Steps. Add a cylinder to make it tall and thin. Increase segments so it can twist and bend. Add a twist deformer first, then add a bend deformer next (the hierarchy is important) we need the cylinder to twist and then bend. you need to change the deformers twist by 360 degrees and the bending strength by 360 degrees, this will allow it to become a circle, go into the cylinder and take off the caps so it connects as a full circle without any intersections. Once you have done this you need to add a displacer - to displace the geometry of the shape - then go into eh shading tab and add a noise shader, go into the shader, stretch the noise by increasing the global scale - it thins out the noise - then you should be moving the geometry significantly, go into the low clip and decrease it, and then go into the high clip and increase it you will begin to see the shape of the object change, you can continue to add more twist deformers and distort the shape as you wish. Then you need to add some materials, I used a kind of candy material and a greyscale image to put into the displacements to add these ridges into the shape as you can see the undulations from one colour to the next, add a background. Viola.
